È possibile costruire una casa allo stesso
costo di un container? Ed è possibile fare
in modo che sia la comunità stessa a costruirsi
le proprie case? Queste due semplici
domande sono state alla base di quello
che è stato Savorengo Ker / La Casa di
tutti, un processo partecipativo per la costruzione
di una casa sperimentale in autocostruzione,
che ha avuto luogo a Roma
nell’insediamento informale rom del Casilino
900, durante il mese di Luglio 2008.

When we first received the proposal by the Development Planning Unit to organise the SummerLab in Rome, particularly in the squatting Porto Fluviale we (Laboratorio Arti Civiche) initially had some reserves. Mainly because we didn’t feel at ease to act as “guides” in a context in which we were just starting to build a relation.
This story tells the evolution of a project, from its slim beginning to its rampant launch.
As Laboratorio Arti Civiche we act as a multidisciplinary research group with a particular interest on elaborating, together with social groups and local communities, a collective and shared vision over urban space, trough the means of ‘Civic Arts’.
The Dpu SummerLab was carried out in collaboration with Porto Fluviale, a former military building that the State is intentioned to sell to private investors and that in 2003 was occupied by Coordinamento di Lotta per la Casa, one of the several roman movements claiming the Right to Dwell, and that gives shelter to about 100 families, both italians and migrants, in housing emergency.
The workshop has been the opportunity to kick-start a process that was already in the air for a while.

This piece of Site-Reading  (Rendell, 2010) starts in Chester on the 23rd of March 2013 and ends in London on the 3rd of May 2013. It consists of a 15 minutes video, which performs the action of reading the distance between Chester and London, plus this commentary to complement it. The two pieces are meant to work together as a whole, accompanying the reader/watcher into this journey in space and time.
5 Km/h is the speed at which the land changes around us as we cruise along the English canals between Chester and London. Speed, with its accelerations, decelerations and stops, in form of a travel on a narrowboat along the canals of England, is the means by which we came to question the nature of progress by observing the stratification of landscapes and organizational structures it has created in a specific site: a diagonal slice cutting England from north-west to south-east across the midlands.

Sabato 26 maggio, via prenestina 913, ore 22,30. Siamo qui per una mostra del MAAM, un acronimo che sta per Museo dell’Arte e dell’Altrove di Metropoliz, e che fa il verso al MAXXI al MACRO e ai molti musei inaugurati nelle città italiane nell’ultimo decennio. Entriamo dal cancello, attraversiamo la piazza del Campidoglio ridisegnata a terra scientificamente dai nostri studenti di architettura e seguendo la musica tra i corridoi della fabbrica, arriviamo a un jam session di ragamuffin in un’atmosfera da inizio anni 90, con il sound system che pompa i bassi.

Laboratorio Arti Civiche è un gruppo di ricerca interdisciplinare fondato a Roma nel 2011 sulla base di esperienze condivise sin dal 2004, tra camminate e altre esplorazioni in spazi residuali e contesti informali, e interazioni con le comunità che vi abitano. Nell’ultimo anno, da Roma ci siamo ritrovati catapultati in varie parti del mondo, nella continua ricerca di nuo- ve e maggiori possibilità di apprendere la (e dalla) città informale: due volte in Brasile (a São Paulo e Salvador), in Cile (Talca), e poi a Buenos Aires, Montevideo, Nairobi, in questi giorni a Nicosia. Mentre scriviamo alcuni di noi si sono imbarcati in un’avventura cipriota chiamata Time of ReCiproCity - A Mobile Recreational Space towards a Time Wasting Imaginary. Il call for idle (‘chiamata all’ozio’) di questo progetto/manifesto recita più o meno: “I ritmi frenetici del- la produzione e l’ossessiva competizione verso una dimensione globale rendono impossibile l’incontro nella città contemporanea. Vogliamo quindi riconsiderare l’ozio al fine di ripensare la città al di là della sfera produttiva, e asseriamo che il perdere tempo è costruttivo quando questo tempo è condiviso”.

È possibile costruire una casa allo stesso costo di un container? Ed è possibile fare in modo che sia la comunità stessa a costruirsi le proprie case? Queste due semplici domande sono state alla base di quello che è stato Savorengo Ker/La Casa di tutti, un processo partecipativo per la costruzione di un’abitazione sperimentale in autocostruzione, che ha avuto luogo a Roma nell’insediamento informale rom del Casilino 900, nel luglio 2008.

This paper offers a short reflection on the role of space in the act of the encounter with Otherness, which the autors view as a catalyst for a radical social and cultural transformation of society. The main argument ley in the fact that in between the Self and the Other there is a space, a gap – the Lacanian ‘field of non meaning’- where different entities enter into relation producing a new hybrid one that transcends the initial.
This encounter produces a space of confrontation, a space in-between things, a threshold: a ‘place where different worlds meet’, a space that consents the reciprocal knowledge and recognition. To ‘dwell the threshold’ means to dwell that distance that separates such different entities. To ‘dwell the threshold’ becomes a practice allowing to perforate the boundary between the Self and the Other. By looking at the act of ‘dwelling the threshold’ as inherent architectural capacities, the paper illustrates its essence with three spatial methaphores: the Border or ‘the zone of interaction among differences’, the Circle or ‘the space of play as catalyst of encounter’ and the Interstices or ‘fragments of different spatial orders’.
This framework, far from being normative and over-comprehensive, attempts to open possible paths of interpretation about exceptionality, and shed light over the spatial possibilities of encounters.

Come sarebbero gli spazi della città che abitiamo se guardati da un pipistrello, un ratto, un canarino? E cosa aggiunge il loro sguardo al modo in cui concepiamo i luoghi della nostra vita quotidiana?
Guardare la nostra città con gli occhi delle altre specie animali che la abitano è il fertile slittamento che sta alla base della ricerca/mostra Milano Animal City, che è stata presentata il 20 Febbraio 2016 al Sino-European Innovation Center a Milano e che nasce dal corso di Urbanism di Stefano Boeri e Michele Brunello al Politecnico di Milano, che ho avuto il piacere di coordinare, grazie al prezioso aiuto di Francesca Benedetto, Caterina Fumagalli, Saverio Pesapane, Livia Shamir e Giorgio Zangrandi.
Questo slittamento dello sguardo è un’operazione fondamentale perché, sebbene vada da sé che non potremo mai guardare davvero come guarda un pipistrello, un ratto, un canarino, tuttavia sforzarsi di farlo significa innanzi tutto ammettere che il nostro non è che uno fra gli sguardi possibili ma non l’unico.
La chiave sta nel comprendere che guardare la città che abitiamo con gli occhi degli altri animali è un’operazione utile per concepire città migliori anche per l’uomo.

On-line learning can become a very efficient method of teaching in the University of the future. The Students can plan their curricula by selecting the offers of some universities coordinated that meet their specific aims. The communication interchange between student and teacher can be enriched through new forms of interaction via network technology.
Laboratories of interactive design, which involve the participation of citizens, can become a good occasion to learn designing linked to the human needs. The architect who is interested in the sustainable development has to consider local needs and interact with users to build a new environment full of local values.

Some applications of hypermedia technology we developed trough the years to represent urban environment are reviewed. From the results the need for a change of paradigm rises. The strategy for a new system to develop is exposed, based on the assumption that:
– the information does not pre-exist its representation; -– the process of cooperatively and competitively represent a situation causes its changing in the same time. -– no single actor will be able to represent the territory in its complexity; The question we need to answer is not what kind of technology we need to manage the information we have but the opposite: what kind of information we need for the technology we have. This information is not neutral nor automatically generalisable, thus, to implement a content based approach, a new system will be designed during a urban developing project.
